Profile

Victor Ndoma-Egba holds two National honours: Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) and Commander of the Niger (CON).

Born in Ikom, Cross River State, on 8th March 1956, he was briefly educated at the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus, before proceeding to the University of Lagos where he obtained the LL.B. (Honours) degree in 1977. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1978 making him a member of the famous “1978 set” the set with the highest number of Supreme Court Justices and Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

He subsequently obtained the LL.M from the University of Calabar and various certificates from the Irish Development Institute, Shannon Ireland, and Stanford and Harvard Universities in the United States of America.

Ndoma-Egba practiced law extensively in all the Superior Courts of record for several years and was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2004. At the age of 27, he was appointed Commissioner for Works and Transport in Old Cross River State (Cross River and Akwa Ibom States) and concurrently acted as Commissioner for Justice and pioneer Chief Executive of the States Directorate of Foods, Roads and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI). He served as Director of Cross River Basin Development Authority in the 3rd Republic and has chaired the Boards of Companies in the private sector with interest ranging from banking, construction and manufacturing.

He was Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Calabar Branch, and President of the Calabar Chamber of Commerce, both for unprecedented three terms.

In 2013, he was elected into the Senate in 2003 to represent Cross River Central Senatorial District and was re-elected in 2007 and 2011. He had served as the first Chairman of Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, (5th Senate) Deputy Senate Leader (6th Senate) and Senate Leader of the Nigerian Senate of the 7th National Assembly and was credited with 38 bills including the Freedom of Information Bill which is now an Act of the National Assembly.

He is currently a Senior Partner in the Abuja law firm of Ndoma-Egba, Ebri & Co. and also chairs Faculty Board of Legum Consult, a Legislative/Public affairs consultancy. He is also Chairman of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and he is a member of the Body of Benchers (the highest body in the legal profession) and a Life Bencher.

Ndoma-Egba has three legal publications to his credit – “Human Rights and the Minority Question in Nigeria” “The Unical Solicitor; Enforcement of Membership Rights in Limited Liability Companies” and “Civil Society and the Consolidation of Democracy”.

Well known for his quiet philanthropy, he holds several honours (including several Chieftaincy titles), awards and prizes including the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Prize and was Senator of the year 2012 by Hallmark Publication, Publishers of Hallmark Newspaper.
